Inexplicable oversight by Eir leaves homes in Offaly without broadband connectivity

Local election candidate Jonathan O'Meara and Deputy Carol Nolan.

INDEPENDENT TD for Laois Offaly Carol Nolan and local election candidate Jonathan O’Meara have been engaging with Eir in an attempt to have the broadband provider correct what they have described as “a very strange and unfortunate oversight” that has left an entire row of homes in Grove Street in Crinkle without any broadband connection.

Deputy Nolan and Mr O’Meara visited Grove Street this week following the representations they had made to the provider asking it to re-engage with the connection works in the area in order to have the matter addressed.

I was recently contacted by a number of the residents from a row of homes in the area who were left puzzled and indeed frustrated as to why all of the adjoining and nearby home in this estate were connected but theirs were not,” said Deputy Nolan.

As I understand it, some of the residents work from home and have adult children in college and they urgently need to be connected especially as it was exam time for many colleges. It is very unfair that an entire row of houses was left unconnected.

I have recently welcomed the announcement from National Broadband Ireland (NBI), that construction has commenced to deliver high-speed broadband to almost 2,000 homes, farms and businesses in Co. Offaly covering Croghan and Daingean, near the Tyrellspass deployment area and Ferbane near the Banagher deployment area.

What has happened at Grove Street, however, highlights how quickly hopes for greater level of connectivity can vanish due to inexplicable oversight or lack of coordination by a provider.

Both myself and Jonathan will continue to engage with Eir to have this issue addressed for the local residents,” concluded Deputy Nolan.
