One of the biggest foodie holidays and a myriad of mouth-watering flavours, entertaining family and friends over the Easter holidays calls for something special.
From Good Friday supper to Easter Sunday roast – and those indulgent sweet moments along the way – scrumptious spring feasts deserve the perfect pour.
To spark up the jovial atmosphere, these trusty companions will bring smiles all round – and ensure you don’t get caught on the hop…
1. Cantine Maschio Extra Dry Prosecco DOC, Italy, £10.50, (£9 Mix Six), Majestic
For a taste of la dolce vita, this perfectly pitched prosecco is a star match with mild, salty cheeses, appetisers and creamy desserts. With enticing floral aromas, lovely fruity freshness and a cascade of white peach, orange blossom and pear notes, it’s underlined by a gentle sweetness in an off-dry style. Bellissima!
2. Inzuzo Chenin Blanc 2025, South Africa, £10, Morrisons
Super fresh, zesty and full of verve, you can’t beat a chenin blanc for versatility and a great all-rounder. This label happens to be particularly mouth-watering and one to wash down shellfish or pork with apple sauce; with hints of apple blossom and tiers of ripe peach, tropical fruits, citrusy acidity and flinty freshness to keep you coming back for more.
3. TTD Petit Chablis 2024, Burgundy, France, £15, (£13 with Nectar), Sainsbury’s
When it comes to entry-level Chablis, this lightly bodied chardonnay’s a real charmer and over-delivers with its delicate floral and citrus aromas, crisp green apple and lemony flavours, stony minerality and fresh acidity. One for scallops, grilled prawns, or lemon and garlic roast chicken with Jersey Royals for a classic spring brunch. Delicious.
4. Chassaux et Fils Sainte Victoire Rosé 2024, Provence, France, £8.99, Aldi
If you’ve a penchant for Whispering Angel rosé but the designer price tag is a tad out of reach, this high-end dupe is worth seeking out. With ethereal angel wings adorning the label, this characteristically pale rosé tastes as good as it looks. A fresh, crisp style with strawberry and peach aromas, delicate red berry flavours with a streak of minerality, think salad niçoise; or olives and charcuterie board.
5. Exceptional by ASDA Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, Australia, £7.50, Asda
A Decanter silver medal winner, this gorgeous cabernet sauvignon from the famous Margaret River region balances elegance with concentration, and is worth making a song and dance about. Deep in structure yet full of finesse, with seductive scents of blackcurrant, cedar, and violets; layers of dark cherry, blackcurrant, mulberry fruit and cedary notes, finishing smooth and long. We’re thinking slow-cooked lamb shanks in red wine sauce, or classic roast lamb.
6. No1 Côtes du Rhône Villages 2024, France, £13.50, Waitrose
A silky smooth, southern Rhône, this is a wine that greets you with open arms and is generous from word go. Beautifully aromatic with plush red fruits galore… juicy berries, cassis, brambly fruit and herbal notes lead into a super-smooth, fresh, fruity finish. Utterly delicious, it’s one for gourmet sausages with potato mash and gravy; or pasta with a herby, tomato-based sauce. Cheers!
