CHELTENHAM REWIND: Sizing John's groom relives 'odd ball' horse's Gold Cup glory
In 2017, the Jessica Harrington-trained Sizing John completed a rare hat-trick of Gold Cup wins with success in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown, the Punchestown Gold Cup and, of course, the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
I recently spoke with Ashley Hussey who was Sizing John's groom through those glory years.
She remembers him arriving in the yard as a "bit of an oddball" and "shy horse" before dominating on track, winning seven and placing in a further three of his 13 ever starts over fences.
