Long detour to be put in place as busy Offaly road set to close for bridge repairs
A long detour will be put in place when a busy Offaly road closes for bridge repairs in the coming weeks.
The R421 at Erry Armstrong, (Barnony Bridge) between Ballycumber and Clara will be closed for up to four days within the period from March 14 to March 25. The distance between Clara and Ballycumber is just under six kilometres.
However Offaly County Council has announced a diversion route that is ten times longer at almost 57 kilometres.
Traffic travelling west will be diverted at Clara onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route via Tullamore, the Blueball, Cloghan and Ferbane before arriving in Ballycumber.
Traffic travelling east will be diverted at Ballycumber onto Traffic Management Diversion Route via Ferbane, Cloghan, the Blueball and Tullamore before heading back to Clara.
