WEATHER FORECAST: More snow and wintry showers on the way today according to Met Eireann weather forecast

More snow and wintry showers are on the way today for Ireland according to Met Eireann weather forecast.

After snow in many places overnight, many roads are in a dangerous condition and according to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast, there's more on the way.

According to Met Eireann, it will be very cold this morning with icy stretches possible on untreated surfaces. There will be sunny spells and scattered showers of sleet, snow and hail and the potential for isolated thunderstorms. Through the afternoon and evening, the snow showers will become mainly confined to high ground. It will be a windy day with fresh to strong west to southwest winds, potentially turning stormy for a time this afternoon on the northwest and north coast. Highest temperatures of just 4 to 7 degrees, but feeling colder due to wind chill.

According to Met Eireann, tonight there will be clear spells and scattered showers of rain or sleet. By morning there will just be isolated showers in the northeast and largely dry conditions everywhere else. It will be cold with minimum temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees generally, so frost and ice is possible. Breezy early in the night with fresh and gusty westerly winds but winds will gradually ease light to moderate overnight.

Friday morning will be cold and dry with sunny spells and any frost and ice will clear. It will stay dry and bright in many areas for the day, but cloud will increase in the west and northwest, bringing patches of drizzle. A milder day with afternoon temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees, in mostly light to moderate breezes, however fresh to strong southerly winds will develop in the west later.
