Sick reaction as former Taoiseach Brian Cowen takes ill at golf event
There has been an appalling reaction online to the news former Taoiseach and Offaly TD Brian Cowen was recently hospitalised at a golf event in Clare.
Mr Cowen was attending an Oireachtas golf society event at Lahinch in late April when he became unwell and was brought to hospital by ambulance, the Irish Examiner reported on Monday.
It's understood the Clara man spent a number of days in hospital before being discharged. He recently attended the funeral of former Offaly football manager Eugene McGee in Longford last week.
The reaction to the news of the former Taoiseach's short hospital stay has been met with a sickening reaction in the comments section of the original article on social media.
One of the first comments read: "Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke, I'll be watching the death notices."
Another said: "If he starved himself like the rest of us, and worked as hard as us, he might be far healthier, KARMA."
"I forgot that this absolute soulless piece of trash was a Taoiseach at one point. Doubtless, the fruits of his treachery meant that he is being well looked after," another user wrote.
Further responses read: "Put the pr**k on a trolley he’ll be fine."
"Just stick him on a trolley, or...maybe two."
"There is a God," another distasteful comment read, while another sarcastically offered "how sad" alongside a laughing emoji.
