Decision due on €20 million shopping centre in Tullamore

Decision are due on two major planning applications in Tullamore this week, including one for a €20 million commercial development at the old Coen's site on Church Road, Tullamore. 

The other decision from Offaly County Council is on a three-storey apartment building at Riverside, Tullamore.

The commercial development has long been mooted since the sale of the site last year and the new 'Riverside Centre' lwill include a shopping centre, residential units, a cinema, restaurants and cafés if given the go-ahead.

The site changed hands last year with the move of Fitzpatrick's garage from the area out to the Portarlington road freeing up the land for the ambitious project, which is being led by a number of local businessmen. It comes at a time Lidl are also building a brand new state-of-the-art store in the same area, across from Kelly's toy store on the Church Road. 

The construction of the new mixed-use centre will create over 200 jobs with further positions create during the construction phase. The development would also feature a residential element with eight residential apartments in the pipeline. The decision is due on Tuesday next, April 30.

Meanwhile a decision is due from Offaly County Council on an application to build a three-storey apartment block with an address at Riverside, Tullamore. The plan is to construct the building which will contain 22 apartments. 

The plans also include landscaping to open up a new walkway along the Tullamore River and a new footpath to the existing bridge over the river. A decision on this development is due on Thursday, May 2.
