The danger posed by snow drifts beside roads as temperatures rise

A number of local authorities and state agencies have been warning of the serious danger posed by snow drifts and piles of snow on roadsides in the coming days.

The sight of 8ft high walls of snow along 'cleared' roads are now commonplace across Offaly but they present a life threatening danger.

A number of county councils have said there is a risk of these clumps of snow falling as blocks onto the roads as a thaw sets in.

Offaly County Council continues to clear roads, leading to similar walls of snow on most routes.
