BREAKING: Met Éireann issues new STATUS RED warning covering Offaly

Offaly is now covered by a Status Red Snow-ice warning issued today by Met Éireann.

Met Éireann has issued a new Status Red weather warning which covers the entirety of Munster and Leinster.

They forecast blizzard-like conditions which will develop in heavy snow and strong easterly winds on Thursday evening and will continue Thursday night and Friday morning giving significant snow drifts in many areas.

Offaly has already taken around 10cm of snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. It is expected that schools will remain closed in the county on Thursday and Friday.

This new warning was issued on Wednesday at 11am and is valid from Thursday at 4pm until Friday at 12 noon. Up to 30cm of snow could fall in that period. 

Met Éireann earlier issued a Status Orange for Offaly which is valid until 12 noon on Wednesday.
