Fastway Couriers entering receivership threatens jobs in Offaly

Jobs in Offaly are under threat after the parent company of Fastway Couriers Ireland entered receivership

Nuvion Group, a delivery and logistics company, is in receivership with Fastway among its franchises. The group also includes Parcel Connect and Nügo.

Fastway Couriers have a facility in Offaly which is based at Botley Lane in Portarlington. Dozens of other jobs, including many who are sole operators and subcontractors in the delivery network, will be affected.

Founded in 2002, Fastway is one of the largest courier businesses in Ireland. Headquartered in Dublin, it operates a customer care centre in Portarlington.

Mark Degnan and Brendan O'Reilly of Interpath Advisory have been appointed as receivers for the company. Nuvion Group has ceased trading with immediate effect.

An internal email sent to staff by the receivers told employees that they would not be paid beyond now and they are only expected to attend work if requested.

The company has cited inflation, rising operation costs and price pressure in the market, saying they have made the business “no longer viable” in its current form.

Delays and disruption are expected and the receivers say they will work with retailers to “minimise” these delays.

Portarlington-based County Councillor Aidan Mullins commented, "devastating news this evening for Portarlington as Fastway Couriers is going into receivership. A massive loss of jobs as I'm told by an employee that about 300 people in total work for the Company.

"A meeting has been arranged by the Company with the workers for12 noon when their position will become clearer but the outlook seems bleak," he said.
