A number of fines have been issued to e-scooter riders in Laois Offaly since legislation was introduced in May of 2024.

Details provided show there were a total of 11 fines issued to e-scooter riders in Laois Offaly up to June 11, 2025.

Minister O’Callaghan released the figures to Dep Hearne. He said:  “An Garda Síochána has, through various media and social media platforms, highlighted the dangers associated with the misuse of e-scooters. In order to combat dangerous behaviour, intelligence is gathered at local level and areas are targeted as appropriate. Garda operations targeting the illegal use of those vehicles involve all members who are assigned to operational duties.

Garda authorities have provided the below breakdown for the number of Fixed Charge Notices issued for eScooter related offences since the introduction of eScooter legislation on 20 May 2024. There have been 461 Fixed Charge Notices issued for eScooter related offences and the table below, provided by the Garda authorities, shows the breakdown per Garda division.”

“I am advised that these figures are based on incidents occurring from 20 May 2024 to 10 June 2025, inclusive. All information contained in this report is based upon operational data from the FCPS system as was available on 11 June 2025 and is liable to change,” Minster O'Callaghan said.
