The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall notice for a batch of a popular cheese product amid health fears.
The alert was issued on Friday for batches of one of supermarket giant Lidl’s popular products.
A batch of the supermarket’s Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge is being recalled due to "the presence of Listeria monocytogenes", a statement from the FSAI reads.
"Lidl Ireland is recalling the above batch of Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores."
The affected products are 150g packs of Deluxe Sriracha Cheddar Cheese Wedge with approval number IE 1059 EC and a best-before date of 11/05/25.
Customers are advised not to eat the implicated batch of cheese with point-of-sale recall notices displayed in stores.
According to the FSAI, symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.
