Offaly IFA pays tribute to the late Bridget Horan of Cadamstown

IT was with great sadness that Offaly Irish Farmers Association members heard of the passing late last year of long-term friend and IFA stalwart - Bridget Horan from Cadamstown, Kinnitty.

Bridget was very active in Offaly IFA down through the years and was always proud of the Association.

Kinnitty IFA/NFA branch was formed in the mid 1950’s and Bridget's father, JJ Horan, was the first Chairman of the branch.

She herself held all branch positions throughout the years as was a great advocate of promoting modern agriculture methods.

At branch level, she encouraged local members to attend IFA protests and demonstrations to stress the importance of farmers having a strong voice to represent themselves.

She understood the importance of an active local Branch and was never found wanting to represent the Association.

At county level within Offaly Co Executive IFA, Bridget represented Offaly on many Committees including IFA’s National Forestry and Farm Family Committee as well as holding the officer ship of Co Treasurer and assistant Secretary in Offaly IFA.

In 2023, the then IFA President Tim Cullinan bestowed Honorary Life Membership on Bridget.

Her outstanding Commitment, dedication and hard work was expressed in the large numbers of Officers and Members from Offaly IFA who took part in her Guard of Honour outside the Church in Cadamstown – a befitting tribute to this great lady.
