Offaly GAA club granted permission for big extension and works on clubhouse

Offaly County Council have granted permission to a proposed extension, set to take place at Clodiagh Gaels GAA club in Killeigh, Tullamore.

The proposal was made by Adam Kinnahan, Chairperson Clodiagh Gaels GAA, in August of this year, with the decision being made on Thursday, October 24.

Clodiagh Gaels GAA was founded in 2015 through an amalgamation of Killeigh and Killurin GAA, an idea which came from the large underage success of the Na Fianna Juvenile hurling and football teams.

The GAA grounds are based in the villages of Killeigh and Killurin, just outside Tullamore town.

Currently, in Killeigh, the facilities include a clubhouse, which consists of two dressing rooms, a meeting room, a floodlit astro-turf pitch, and a gym along with a walking track.

In Killurin, facilities include a clubhouse, which consists of two dressing rooms and a referee room. There is also a stand and scoreboard on the pitch.

Their facilities include two pitches, one in Killeigh and one in Killurin.

Since the amalgamation of the two GAA clubs, the clubhouse in Killeigh has seen an increase in usage and the demand for better facilities to bring the building, which was constructed in the 1980s, up to date with current building regulations and energy requirements.

A brief was developed by MCOH architects to facilitate the refurbishment and extension of the existing building to include, shower facilities, a kitchenette, referee changing and shower facilities, along with bringing the building up to meet building regulations and energy requirements.

The design seeks to extend the existing clubhouse whilst also upgrading the building to achieve a more efficient building envelope.
