NCT testers in warning after car's major fail that you might not even spot
NCT testers have issued a warning to Irish drivers after a car's recent major fail
Statistics show that half of cars fail their initial NCT test and testers say sometimes this is down to drivers not knowing how to maintain all parts of their car properly.
While many of us can top up oil and keep a check on tyres, some major failing points are harder to spot but a warning has been issued after a number of fails recently for the same flaw.
NCT Ireland posted a picture of the underside of a number of cars that have recently failed the NCT along with the post: "This is what can happen if you don't look after your car properly. Complete corrosion and an NCT fail.
"Don't let this happen to you," they warned.
NCT Ireland previously explained that corrosion is just one of many hidden issues that could result in a failed test. They posted: "Corrosion is a common fail in the NCT. It can make vehicles extremely dangerous to drive as it can seriously reduce the strength of the component."
NCT Ireland also recently revealed a number of other little known visual reasons your car could fail the NCT.
The NCT says: "Taking a few minutes to check some of the visual items below and ensuring they are all working in advance of your NCT could potentially save you valuable time and money."
One of the more obscure items that you could easily forget to check is the little bulbs on your registration plates. It is a legal requirement that your registration is visible at all times and if these bulbs aren't working, it cannot be seen at night.
Your car could fail its NCT if its registration plate lamps are "not working, faulty or not fitted; not white in colour; or if the lens is missing or broken." You can check these bulbs by turning your car on and checking the bulbs are on front and rear before the test.
