Shane Lowry with the Irish Open trophy in Esker Hills back in 2009
THE annual Esker Hills to Augusta competitions are back on and will once again co-incide with the US Masters in the famed Georgia golf course.
The competition was first organised several years ago when Shane Lowry made his first appearance in the US Masters. His home club, Esker Hills Golf Club came up with an innovate and winning formula, staging competitions to co-incide with the concluding stages of the event.
This year there are three days of single stableford competition on April 12, 13 and 14. The daily entry fee is €30 and the format has proven very popular attracting yearly visitors from throughout Ireland – competitors are paired with a golfer in the Masters and their joint scores count, meaning that a player can win with a bad day if the professional he is drawn with goes well and vice versa.
Opened in 1996, Esker Hills has a very highly rated course and full catering is available each day. Bookings can be made by phoning 057 9355999 or 086 3423662.
