Latest Met Eireann weather forecast for the weekend for Ireland
Ireland is in for a cold and wintry weather this weekend according to the latest weather forecast for Ireland from Met Eireann.
According to Met Eireann, it will continue cold over the weekend with wintry showers at times and with frost at night. However the national forecaster adds that the weather will become milder next week.
According to the latest weather forecast for Ireland from Met Eireann, there will be rain and sleet over north Leinster and Ulster on Friday morning. Some snow is possible, mainly over high ground. This will move southwards across the rest of the country through the day, with drier weather following in the northwest during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms are possible too. It will become breezy and blustery, as a fresh to strong and gusty north to northeast wind develops. Cold, with highest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees.
Friday night will be cold night with a mix of clear spells and wintry showers of rain, hail and sleet with some snow on hills and mountains. Some frost and icy patches are possible. Lowest temperatures of between of -1 and +3 degrees with mostly moderate north to northwest winds.
According to Met Eireann, Saturday will continue cold with sunny spells and showers, some of hail with some sleet over the mountains. Highest afternoon temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with a moderate northwesterly wind. Saturday night will be cold with clear spells showers with a few hail or sleet showers possible. Frost and icy patches will develop also. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees
Sunday will be a bright day with sunny spells and isolated showers. Not as cold as previous days with highest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees with light to moderate westerly winds. Sunday night will be cold with frost and icy patches. A band of rain will move up over the southern half of the country overnight, turning to sleet in places as it meets the cold air. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees, coldest in Ulster.
After another cold and wet day on Monday, the weather will turn mild for the following few days with a fair amount of dry weather and some showers. Temperatures will range from about 11 to 14 degrees and the nights will be mostly frost-free
