The Birr Scor champions
BIRR claimed the All-Ireland Scor Sinsir Rince Foirne title for the first time when they were named champions after the All-Ireland Finals were held in Killarney on Saturday last.
Perseverance certainly paid off for the Birr laides, who were competing in their fourth consecutive All-Ireland Final. The Birr team was Sarah Teehan, Sarah Cooke, Kathy Dermody, Aoife Gilligan, Eimear Teehan, Aisling Sammon, Aoife Maher and Tara Seguin.
The standard of competition was one of the highest standards ever seen in Scor Sinsir. Following hours of tremendous entertainment the ladies from Birr emerged victorious to scenes of great jubilation and claimed Offaly's first ever All-Ireland title in the Rince Foirne competition. This is truly an outstanding achievement by the Birr ladies who were competing in their fourth consecutive All-Ireland Final.
Along with the Rince Foirne, Offaly were also represented by Edenderry in the Traith Na gCeist final.
The Traith Na gCeist competition commenced with the table quiz format first. This format comprised of 60 questions, with the top three teams progressing to the on-stage competition later in the afternoon.
Following the conclusion of the table quiz section the three teams who progressed to the on stage section were Cork, Kerry and Offaly. The on stage competition proved to be extremely closely fought among the three teams and concluded with Cork emerging victorious by one point margin over Offaly with Kerry a very close third.
This is the third consecutive year that Edenderry have reached the on stage section of the All-Ireland Final and having emerged victorious in 2021, they were also third in 2022 and now second 2023. The Edenderry team was Garrett Reilly, Ian Delamere, Peter Guing and Hugh O'Donoghue.
Well done to both Offaly representatives.
