Grainne Walsh with her national title
TULLAMORE boxer Grainne Walsh showed her quality as she won another national title last weekend.
A vastly experienced international boxer, Walsh won the welterweight 66kg division at the IABA National Elite Boxing Championships in the National Stadium.
A former member of the Sparatacus Boxing Club in Tullamore, Walsh is now wearing the colours of St Mary's in Dublin and she was in control the whole way in her final against Christina Desmond of Dungarvan.
Walsh had as very comprehensive 5-0 win as she ensured a very good end to the year for her.
Meanwhile another Offaly boxer, Nicole Buckley is currently in Budva, Montenegro for the European U-22 Boxing Championships. The Pullough woman is a member of St Carthage's Boxing Club in Rahan and is competing in the 48kg division.
The flyweight won the national U-22 title earlier this year and has enjoyed success abroad in the Celtic Box Cup and the Haringey Cup.
A talented all round sports woman, Buckley's boxing commitments forced her to miss Naomh Ciaran's defeat by Kilmacud Crokes in the Leinster Ladies Football Senior Club Championship final in Kinnegad on Saturday. The tournament ends on November 20. She has received a bye in the first round and will be boxing Yagettekin Nurselen of Turkey in the quarter-final on November 15.
