On behalf of the Elected Members and Executive of Offaly County Council, An Cathaoirleach Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick hosted a Civic Reception for the Offaly Association New York on September 23.

Martin Furlong and Paddy Hogan, supported by their families and friends from New York and Offaly, attended the event to represent the Offaly Association New York at this prestigious event. Matt Connor was also in attendance.

An Cathaoirleach Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick confirmed “Civic Receptions recognise an individual, group or organisation's achievements and contribution to society at local, national, or international level.

"On behalf of all gathered here today, we are delighted to bestow this honour on the Offaly Association New York as they continuously celebrate and promote the best of Offaly and Irish culture while keeping connections alive and well within a supportive community," Cllr Fitzpatrick concluded.

“It seems fitting the Offaly Association New York is recognised for their good work as they continually provide a vital connection – ‘a home away from home’ for the Offaly diaspora to re-engage in Offaly culture as well as providing insight into Irish traditions and the importance of community – something which is embedded in the DNA of every Offaly person no matter where they live,” added Chief Executive of Offaly County Council, Anna Marie Delaney.

Tullamore Comhaltas provided musical entertainment with a selection of reels, jigs, hornpipes and ended the event with the ‘Offaly Rover’.
