One person hospitalised after aircraft crash in the Midlands

One person was taken to hospital following a light aircraft crash in Laois on Thursday.

It’s understood the microlight aircraft got into difficulty shortly after take off.

Gardai said one person was taken to hospital as a precaution following an emergency landing in Emo at around 5pm. They are not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.  

Emergency services rushed to the scene following the forced landing at around 5pm on Thursday.  An investigation is now underway following the incident at Emo. 

"On the evening of Thursday 7th September, the AAIU was notified that a microlight aircraft had experienced an engine problem and conducted a forced landing in a field near Limetree Co. Laois,” the Department of Transport said in a statement.  

“Three inspectors of air accidents are deploying to the site this morning (Friday 8th September) to examine the aircraft and conduct other on-site investigative activities," they added. 

The AAIU(Air Accident Investigation Unit) are the lead investigators for incidents involving aircraft in Ireland.
