ALERT! Stormy weather on the way as Met Eireann issues weather warning for parts of Ireland PIC WX Charts
Ireland is in for an unseasonable blast of stormy weather with Met Eireann issuing two separate weather warnings for Thursday and Friday.
Met Eireann is warning of unseasonably windy conditions as well as heavy rain.
A Status Yellow Rain Warning for Galway and Mayo is now in place and remains in place until noon on Friday. Met Eireann is warning that there will be heavy rain at times with highest accumulations in mountainous regions. Unseasonably windy conditions also.
Met Eireann says potential impacts are localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions increased debris and damage to temporary outdoor structures
A similar weather warning for Kerry and Cork is also in place and remains in place until 8am on Friday morning.
The full Met Eireann weather forecast for the coming days is as follows.
TODAY: Wet and windy conditions spreading eastwards with rain and drizzle becoming widespread this afternoon. The rain will be heaviest and most persistent across Atlantic counties with spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees with southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty.
TONIGHT: Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will continue tonight, heavy in places, but some drier intervals will occur also. Windy or blustery conditions will become increasingly confined to eastern and southern coastal counties overnight. Humid with lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.
THURSDAY: Scattered heavy showers with a chance of isolated thunderstorms, tomorrow Friday, mainly affecting the western half of the country during the morning and early afternoon. Drier with sunny spells developing in the east. Warm and humid, with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees, with the best of the sunshine and temperatures over the northern half of the country. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeast winds.
FRIDAY: Friday night will bring further showers or longer spells of rain, especially to parts of the west and south towards morning with the potential for some thundery downpours. Lowest temperatures 15 or 16 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong near coasts.
SATURDAY: On Saturday thundery rain will move northwards across the country. Blustery too with strong winds for a time near the southwest coast in particular. Sunshine and moderating westerly breezes will later follow from the south. Highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees. Saturday night will be mainly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures 10 or 11 degrees in light southerly winds.
SUNDAY: After a dry start Sunday afternoon showers will be widespread and heavy with possible spot flooding. Highest temperatures 17 to 21 degrees, in light to moderate southerly breezes.
MONDAY: A similar story on Monday with sunshine and frequent showers, some of them heavy in the afternoon. Highest temperatures 17 to 20 degrees in light variable breezes.
