ALERT! Thunderstorms forecast for Ireland with very windy weather on the way this weekend

The spell of unsettled and unseasonable weather is set to continue as Met Eireann is forecasting possible thunderstorms for Ireland today with very windy weather and rain on the way this weekend.

According to Met Eireann, there will be scattered showers on Friday afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms while Saturday will see very windy conditions.

The weather is set to improve on Sunday but there will still be some very heavy showers. Temperatures are set to be in the low 20s over the coming days.

The full weather forecast for Ireland from Met Eireann for Friday and the weekend is as follows:

FRIDAY: Rather cloudy to start this morning with some heavy showers, mainly in the west. Sunny spells will develop mixed with well scattered showers for the afternoon, with the chance of isolated thunderstorms. Showers will become confined to the northwest, for a dry and sunny evening elsewhere. Warm, humid and very breezy today with highs of 19 to 23 degrees in fresh and gusty southerly winds.

Any lingering showers will die out early tonight becoming dry and clear for a time. Overnight, heavy showery rain will develop in the southwest along with strong winds. Southeasterly winds will be moderate to fresh elsewhere. Overnight temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.

SATURDAY: Windy tomorrow with strong southerly winds developing in all areas, very windy at times along the south and west coast. Showery rain in the south in the morning will move northwards across the country during the day. Rain may be heavy in parts. Winds will moderate later in the afternoon as the rain clears to sunny spells with just one or two showers following. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Largely dry and clear with winds easing to a light southerly breeze. Later in the night, heavy showers will move up into the south. Cooler than previous nights with lows of 9 to 11 degrees.

SUNDAY: A bright morning with a few showers in places. Showers will become widespread and increasingly heavy in the afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms likely in parts. Winds will be mostly light, although gusty at times due to showers. Highs of 17 to 21 degrees. Showers will clear early Sunday night, however rain will later develop in the south and west. Lows of 10 to 13 degrees.

MONDAY: Rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain, heavy or possibly thundery at times. Some clear periods too. Mostly light breezes. Highs of 17 to 20 degrees.
