Head coach steps up to take over as Offaly senior camogie manager

Lorrha man Jack Maher succeeds David Sullivan as Offaly step up to senior grade in 2026

Head coach steps up to take over as Offaly senior camogie manager

Offaly won the intermediate All-Ireland and Division 2A league titles in 2025 under captain Orlagh Phelan.

OFFALY have appointed Jack Maher as their new camogie manager in succession to David Sullivan, who stepped down after the All-Ireland final.

The Lorrha man was part of David Sullivan's management team who helped Offaly win the All-Ireland Intermediate title this year and regain their place in senior status for 2026 and now he takes over the top role himself.

He worked with David Sullivan as coach for many years in a number of different roles at club and county level, and received great praise from David Sullivan prior to this year's All-Ireland Final for the work they did together. “We worked together a long time. We would have hurled together and Jack, my main coach, and myself are the same age and to have that relationship to someone so close, your right hand man, is really important because you have to trust him as well. We don't always see eye to eye on everything but it's great to know that the person standing to the right of you is a person that you trust and know. We played for Lorrha together and would have played for St Rynagh's Community College in Banagher, Paddy Scales would have been my principal down there, and we won an All-Ireland in 2005,' David said last August.

Now Jack steps up to the manager's role and a number of other members of last year's backroom team will also be part of his management team, ensuring there is continuity as Offaly step up to senior ranks again next year.

A statement from Offaly Camogie announcing the the appointment said that “Jack has been central to Offaly's recent rise. As head coach in 2024 and 2025, he played a pivotal role in guiding the team to All-Ireland success in 2025. He also brings intercounty experience from his time with Tipperary, where he coached the side that reached the 2023 All-Ireland Junior Final. In addition, Jack has extensive coaching and managerial experience at club level in both hurling and camogie across Galway and Tipperary.

Joining him as head coach for 2026 is Barney Naughnane. The Kilruane MacDonagh's man, who served as Offaly's goalkeeping coach in 2025, is now assuming responsibility as head coach. Barney brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having managed and coached hurling teams across Offaly, Laois and Tipperary.

Ronan Moore continues his role as strength and conditioning coach for 2026, a position he has held since 2024. A Lorrha native, Ronan has played an instrumental part in Offaly's recent successes, including the 2025 All-Ireland triumph, and has also enjoyed Munster Championship wins at both club and county level in camogie.

Michelle Davis of Shinrone also remains as selector. A multiple All-Ireland winner with Offaly as both a player and selector, Michelle brings invaluable knowledge and experience to the set-up.

Completing the management team is Trish Nugent of Belmont, who will continue in her role as selector. An All-Ireland Club winner with St Rynagh's, Trish has been a key figure within the group and adds further strength to the Offaly management team.”
