Peadar Tóibín to join Aubrey Claffey for meeting in Banagher

Peadar Tóibín TD

LOCAL election candidate for Aontú, Aubrey Claffey, invites all residents of the Birr Municipal District to a public meeting to address critical issues impacting the community. The meeting, to be held on Monday, April 29th at the LOETB Centre in Banagher, will provide an opportunity for constituents to engage directly with Mr Claffey and party leader, Peadar Tóibín.

The meeting will focus on a range of pressing concerns identified by constituents, including the housing crisis, healthcare, immigration, and support for farmers.

Housing Crisis: With 36 Empty Local Authority Homes in Offaly taking an average of eight months to re-let, Aontú is committed to reducing turnaround times to increase access to housing. The exorbitant rental prices are pushing many families to financial breaking points, and action is needed urgently.

Healthcare: Accessing essential healthcare has become increasingly challenging for residents of the Birr Municipal District. GPs are at capacity, with many individuals waiting several days for an appointment. The overflow has led to reliance on emergency services like Midoc, indicating a significant resource strain that must be addressed promptly.

Immigration: Aontú has been at the forefront of advocating for transparent discussions on immigration, highlighting critical issues such as the deportation order scandal and the lack of clarity surrounding the origin of asylum seekers. Aontú stands for equal treatment for all, emphasising that no one coming into the country should receive preferential treatment over Irish citizens. We believe in differentiation between those genuinely in need of assistance and those who are not, ensuring that resources are allocated fairly and responsibly.

Support for Farmers: Agriculture is a vital industry in our area, yet farmers face numerous challenges, including market fluctuations and environmental concerns. Aontú is committed to supporting and sustaining our local farming community, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to thrive. We believe in fair treatment for farmers and advocate for policies that promote their success and sustainability.

Aubrey Claffey and Peadar Tóibìn are eager to engage with residents and address their questions and concerns. All are welcome to attend this important event and be part of the dialogue shaping the future of our community.

It will be held on Monday, April 29th at 7.30pm in the LOETB Centre, Main Street, Banagher.
