North Tipperary Development Company mark Local Development Week 2024

Business workshops, fitness sessions and much more are planned to celebrate Local Development Week across North Tipperary. 

The Irish Local Development Network (ILDN) is delighted to announce the celebration of Local Development Week, taking place this week from Monday   to Friday the 27th September. 

This weeklong celebration will highlight the vital role Local Development Companies (LDCs) play in building vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable communities throughout Ireland.

North Tipperary Development Company (NTDC)

Michael Murray, CEO of  NTDC said “that NTDC, as a member of the National Network will host events, workshops and training programmes across the North of the County to showcase their unique contributions to their communities. 

“These will include a Training Workshop on the importance of digital marketing for new businesses and to help new business owners develop the tools and skills needed to promote their business’s on-line through images and video, a Training Programme for the Nenagh Traveller Primary Care Team, a Self-Care Group in supporting Older Persons in the community, a Work Related Training Programme in supporting long term unemployed and people with disabilities in gaining accreditation to progress into employment opportunities”, Mr. Murray explained.

Monica McElvaney, Chairperson of NTDC, highlighted other activities taking place, including, targeted fitness sessions for older people in supporting age-related ailments and medical conditions.

“There is also an Integrated Interest based group in combatting social isolation and integrated Literacy supports provision, a Self-Care Group in supporting the Traveller community with combatting social integration and mental health issues, and an Integration and intergenerational Project in collaboration with Age Friendly Roscrea”, she explained.

NTDC are a local development company and provide programmes in childcare/creches, youth services, training, job supports, community development services including SICAP, enterprise supports and grants, counselling and family supports, health and wellbeing supports, the Ascend domestic abuse service, older person services, social enterprise, rural development including LEADER, meals on wheels and new arrivals services. 

The Company has its main offices in Nenagh, Thurles and Roscrea and delivers outreach support across North Tipperary.

NTDC are supported in their work by Tipperary County Council, members of the Tipperary LCDC, DRCD, Tusla, HSE, DSP, TETB, Department of Justice, SEAI, DCEDIY and other funders. These agencies support in ensuring that resources were made available to support the communities of North Tipperary during 2024.

Local Development Sector

Employing over 2,000 people, the Local Development Sector works tirelessly to support social inclusion, rural and urban development, enterprise and employment, family support, climate action, health equality and wellbeing. 

Local Development Week 2024 provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the impactful work LDCs do daily, enhancing the quality of life in cities, towns and villages across the country.

In addition to the local activities, ILDN will host two major national events in Dublin, aimed at celebrating key achievements within the sector and highlighting important developments. 

These events will take place at Buswells Hotel,  Molesworth Street, Dublin 2 this week until Friday.
