CARRIG, Riverstown and Killeen (CRK) Drama Group is busy preparing their production of Tom Coffey’s ‘Anyone Could Rob a Bank’, being held in Carrig and Riverstown Community Hall on Thursday November 28th, Saturday November 30th and Sunday December 1st.

This well written comedy, with a hilarious plot, promises to be another extremely entertaining play. CRK Drama is delighted to have Brendan Hanamy direct once again, and it appears that Brendan has successfully guided this talented amateur group to hopefully another very successful production. Rehearsals began in early September with the enthusiasm and professionalism that we have become accustomed to. The group is also delighted to see three new faces on stage this year.

The play is set in the 1970’s kitchen of Badger Grey (played by Michael Hayes), which is located at the back of his shop. Badger together with his wife Sarah (Maria Harding) and daughter Noreen (Emma O’Rourke) share the house with his brother Jereen (Declan Murray) and nephew Mickey (Dylan Hogan). The arrival of an out of town lodger (Damien Nowaski), together with Badger’s reading in the National newspaper of an unsuccessful robbery in Dublin, lead to unintended consequences…. This all happens under the watchful eye of the local Sergeant (Barry Deane) and next-door neighbour Windy O’Sullivan (Joe Hynes).

Playwright and author, Tom Coffey, worked as a schoolteacher and in industry before writing plays for the Abbey and the Lyric. He also wrote many episodes of the RTE Drama serial ‘The Riordans' along with several other works. His plays are produced regularly across Ireland and around the world and CRK Drama Group are honoured to perform one of his most successful plays this year.

This year’s production team is led by Barry Deane and sees some new faces helping out both front and back stage. The construction crew has once again done a fantastic job creating the set designed by Mark McDowall and Brendan Hanamy. Tony Dargan, Mick Collins, Eddie Doorley, Nigel Keeshan, and Tadhg Sullivan were all involved in set construction, with Liam O’Meara, Mary King and Louise Bergin volunteering their painting and artistic skills. Lisa Deane, who this year takes a break from acting, took on a new role as stage manager and has created a beautiful set. Ruth Scully and Monica Dynan are front of stage this year looking after continuity, light and sound with Chloe Kelly also helping out back stage.

The group bid a very sad farewell to longstanding member and friend Dermot Sullivan during 2024. Dermot played an active part both on and off the stage over the past nine years and is sadly missed by everyone.

CRK would like to acknowledge the help and support from various community groups and local businesses. Each year the group normally gives two local community groups the opportunity to organise the raffle. This year we are delighted to announce that Thursday’s raffle is being organised by Carrig & Riverstown Social Dancing Group. Saturday’s raffle will be organised by Carrig Tidy Towns Group who hope to embark on an exciting new project in Carrig village.

Tickets for this year’s play are already in high demand so book early to avoid missing out. Tickets can be booked through the committee by phoning (089) 4756379. Please support CRK Drama Group and the local community by coming to see what will be a highly entertaining production.
