Offaly singer Simon Casey has recreated a song he first performed on RTE talent show You're A Star more than 20 years ago and raked in millions of listens online.

The Ballycumber man appeared on the hit RTE talent show back in 2003 where he finished second behind Donegal man Mickey Joe Harte.

On that show, which drew hundreds of thousands of viewers every week, Simon performed Phil Lynott hit Sarah.

Now, the popular singer who has well over 100,000 social media followers, has shared a new version of the song and received incredible feedback.

The new version of Sarah has racked up over 3 million streams on Spotify.

Sharing the news with his followers, Simon said: "My cover of Phil Lynott's ‘Sarah’ is heading for 3 million streams on Spotify, unbelievable stuff."

Speaking to the Offaly Express, Simon recalled performing the song on You're A Star 1 years ago:

"I sang it years ago on You're A Star, 21 years ago, and still get asked to perform it all the time. In fact, Phil’s [Lynott] mother Philomena reached out to me all those years ago to compliment my version of her son's song. Unbelievable."

You can listen to Simon's latest version below or on Spotify.
