Details of crash heard at Tullamore District Court

A MAN was found in possession of drugs at Tullamore Hospital after crashing his car near Kilbeggan.

Pleas of guilty were entered at Tullamore District Court by solicitor Patrick Martin on behalf of his client Dylan Kinahan (30), Chandlers Way, Rushbrook, Cobh, Co Cork.

Mr Kinahan admitted dangerous driving and having no insurance at Loughanagore, Co Westmeath and possession of drugs at Midlands Hospital, Tullamore on August 22, 2023.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told Judge Valerie Corcoran that at 3.30pm on that date at Loughnagore Mr Kinahan was driving a Dublin registered 2017 Ford Focus from Ballinagore towards Kilbeggan.

Sergeant Thornton said the man was travelling at high speed on the wrong side of the road around a bend when he collided with the side of a Citroen Dispatch going in the opposite direction. Drugs worth €470 were found in the hospital.

The sergeant added that Mr Kinahan had no previous convictions.

Judge Corcoran said she would have to get victim impact statements because there were parties named in the dangerous driving prosecution.

The judge said she would note the plea and that it was early. She adjourned the matter to November 26 next for sentencing and victim impact reports.
