Gardaí on patrol in the Parkmore area Roscrea had their attention drawn to a vehicle which was acting in a suspicious manner.

As a result of a search of the vehicle, Gardaí recovered a number of items/substances that are believed to be controlled drugs.

A male was arrested at the scene and was detained at a Garda Station in County Tipperary.

Meanwhile local Gardaí have issued a Crime Prevention Alert relating to bogus traders and cold callers operating in the Roscrea and wider North Tipperary area.

Gardaí from the East Clare & North Tipperary Division are appealing for everyone to be extra vigilant regarding bogus traders and cold callers.

Over the last two weeks there has been a number of incidents of "tradesmen" canvassing members of the public offering illegitimate home repair services, lawn and landscaping services.

“There are a number of people who are travelling around the East Clare & North Tipperary with the sole aim of trying to defraud people by offering services such as building work, repairs and gardening/ landscaping”, the Gardaí warned.

If someone cold-calls to your door offering services and you’re unsure of their legitimacy – please contact your local Garda station immediately.

If you do wish to avail of their services, ask for a brochure or documentation so you can carry out checks and verify their credibility.

“This should include a contact number and a V.A.T registered number. · If you are satisfied that the company or individual(s) are credible and you want to make a purchase, ask for an itemised written quotation for the exact goods or services being offered” the Gardaí advise.

Always seek comparable estimates for services. Never engage a person who insists on a cash payment as it is untraceable.
Genuine tradespeople won’t be offended by any queries that you or Gardaí may make.

If you or someone you know has paid for work that was not carried out or was substandard, please report it to your nearest Garda station.

The Gardaí have also asked the community to please share this message with elderly neighbours, friends, and family to help keep everyone safe.
