Firefighters from Laois and Offaly rushed to the scene of a large fire on bogland in Co Offaly on Sunday evening.
The fire broke out between Walsh Island and Mount Lucas in Co Offaly shortly before 6pm on Sunday, May 18.
Smoke can be seen from nearby towns with dozens of firefighters at the scene.
Locals on the road between Mount Lucas and Walsh Island were waiting on the roadside to direct fire services to the blaze which appears to have started on nearby bogland.
Firefighters were at the scene shortly after 6pm and were working to access the area. The recent dry weather has increased the risk of gorse fires around the country.
