Flying tents and piles of rubbish - clean up operation underway after Electric Picnic

Electric Picnic campers abandon rubbish and tents in Stradbally

As weary Electric Picnic campers slowly make their way home on Monday, cleanup efforts are just beginning.

While many campers diligently left no trace of their presence at the Stradbally festival site, many have opted to abandon their tents and their rubbish.

The Leinster Express / Laois Live captured footage of the Jimi Hendrix campsite, where rubbish was strewn across the grounds.

Campers must vacate the festival grounds by 4pm, where local charities will have an hour to salvage as many supplies as they can.

Among these charities are Laois SPCA and Portlaoise Action to Homelessness (PATH).

PATH will be collecting sleeping bags, tents and non perishable foods, while Laois SPCA will attempt to salvage blankets and cans for the Re-turn scheme.

Over 80,000 picnickers attended this year's Laois festival, making it their biggest crowd yet.

The Leinster Express / Laois Live was on site bringing the latest updates as they come. For more coverage of this year's festival, see here.
