Fine Gael candidate John Clendennen was elected to the Dáil at 2 o'clock on Sunday morning in the Offaly Count Centre in Birr.
It had been a very tight race to the finish with John just getting ahead of the Sinn Féin candidate Aoife Masterson.
His supporters raised a very happy Kinnitty man onto their shoulders in celebration.
