Tesco Ireland have been marking International Women's Day on Thursday by thanking some of their most treasured female staff members.
In the Edenderry branch, the entire staff plotted to surprise long-serving employee Olive Kennedy in a video you can watch above.
In the video, Olive is named over the store speakers, as the rest of the workers hide away to complete the surprise. The announcement thanks Olive on behalf of her colleagues for being, "honest and caring," and "always first with the bear hug when it's needed."
"So, on International Women's Day, thank you, Olive, for everything," the announcement concluded, before her colleagues ran out to surprise her with a bunch of flowers and a few bear hugs!
Olive was teary-eyed during the announcement and at one point said, "I think I'm just going to die," such was her shock at the gesture. Tesco Ireland said she deserves the recognition because "there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for a colleague or a customer."
Tesco surprised other employees across the country with similar well wishes, and they issued a statement as to why they were doing so for the women of their organisation. "They’re the backbone of our stores, and we thought it was only right to let them know what they mean to us."
"They’re mammies, sisters, daughters and friends. And they’re our colleagues. On International Women’s Day we wanted to say thank you to the incredible women of Tesco."
"They’d kill you for making a fuss about them. But if you can’t thank them for what they do for us on International Women’s Day, when can you?" they added.
