Met Éireann has issued a fresh weather warning for three counties in the west with strong winds and rain to sweep in from the Atlantic.

The Status Yellow wind warning for Clare, Galway and Mayo was issued on Thursday but will come into force at 10am on Friday. It will remain in place until 4pm on Friday.

In the update, Met Éireann predicted "strong and gusty west to southwest winds with the potential for wave overtoppping" in those counties.

They have also issued a Status Yellow gale warning from Mizen Head to Loop Head to Erris Head, saying, "South to southwest winds will reach gale force 8 at times."

The warning is valid from 1pm on Thursday until 7pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has confirmed our weather will remain very unsettled for the rest of this week with a warning issued for winds at the coast and miserable conditions hitting most areas.

In its outlook for the next few days, Met Éireann said it will be "unsettled with wet and breezy weather at times but with above average temperatures."

Alan O'Reilly at Carlow Weather also predicts "more wet and windy weather over the next few days but the good news is the heaviest rain is mainly overnight and strongest of winds will stay out to stay.

"If you have your Christmas party this weekend you might to try get home before you get soaked waiting for a taxi," he advised.
