PARK

Participants led by director Mark Hackett at the parkrun in Mountlucas

THERE was an excellent atmosphere last Saturday morning, at Bord na Mona Mountlucas Wind Farm, when over 100 participants helped celebrate the 200th Mountlucas parkrun.

All finishers received a specially designed finishers tee shirt, sponsored by Bord na Mona. The Company also sponsored a well-deserved cup of coffee and treats for everyone, adding greatly to the festival atmosphere.

Speaking after the event, Catherine Swaine from Bord na Mona said “We are delighted and proud to be involved with Mountlucas parkrun on an ongoing basis and especially today as part of the 200th run, with a turnout of over 100 people on the day. Our parkrun success is due to our wonderful volunteers who turn up week after week, regardless of the weather along with our well mapped out route and interesting surroundings. Here’s looking forward to our 300th celebrations already”.

The first parkrun was held in Mountlucas on the 1st July 2017. Since then, 1,561 participants have completed 9,616 parkruns, covering a distance of 48,080km. In addition, 171 individuals have volunteered 1,630 times.

Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5k event for runners and walkers that takes place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 Countries across the world.

Mountlucas parkrun is based at Mountlucas Wind farm outside Daingean.
