THE Murphy family have found a unique way to honour and remember their beloved son Jordan who died after being struck by a van in 2018 as he crossed the road in Athlone.
Jordan was a ''massive'' fan of the Liverpool football team and attended several matches with his father Alan.
Liverpool Football Club has established an 'Anfield Forever' walkway of engraved stones that can be personalised by Reds fans across the globe.
There are a variety of shapes, sizes and locations to choose from. People can choose the wording they wish to place on the stone.
The wording on Jordan's stone reads ''Jordan Murphy, Offaly, Ireland, Forever 19.''
The stone ''has now become part of a new chapter in the fabric of Anfield Stadium, the iconic and historic home of Liverpool Football Club. ''
''Since Jordan's death in 2018 I was hoping to secure one in his memory but I had been unsuccessful in securing one until this year, I purchased it on the February 9 2022 and it will be installed at the Anfield Road end of Anfield in 2023 upon completion of the Anfield Road stand expansion'' said Alan Murphy
Jordan died after being struck by a van at Bonavalley, near the Athlone IT college campus on Tuesday September 11, 2018. He was a second year higher cert business student and was just 19 at the time of his death.
In 2020 an Athlone man was handed down a two and a half year suspended sentence at Mullingar Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of the Tullamore student.
John O’Shea (66) of Ballinahown, Athlone, had driven through a red light. He was also suspended from driving for a period of 10 years.
A fundraiser which was established in Jordan's name has raised thousands of euro for mental health services. Last year alone it raised €40,000.
This year's fundraiser is currently being organised with some great sporting related prizes. For more information log onto www.facebook.com/tjmmf
