Millions of euro is expected to pour into the local economy during the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan outside Tullamore.

The hospitality sector is set to benefit the most from the three day event. Hotel rooms and B&Bs have been booked up months in advance. Meanwhile, local pubs and restaurants are preparing for a bonanza as hungry and thirsty visitors head back into town after a day in the fresh air.

Caroline Collins, the President of Tullamore Chamber of Commerce said: "We are absolutely delighted to welcome the National Ploughing Championships back to Tullamore this year. This world-class event brings with it a tremendous boost to the local economy and offers an unparalleled opportunity to showcase all that our town and surrounding area have to offer,'' said Caroline.

''We’re working closely with An Garda Síochána and other stakeholders to ensure a well-organised traffic management plan is in place. While there will be increased activity around the town, Tullamore remains very much open for business throughout the event. Clear signage and local information points will help guide both visitors and locals, ensuring ease of access to our shops, cafes, restaurants, and services.

This is more than just a three-day event – it's a chance to put Tullamore on the map as a destination in its own right. We encourage all visitors to explore our vibrant town centre, experience our warm hospitality, and discover what makes Tullamore special – from heritage sites to local food, culture, and more.

Together, we’re making sure that this year’s Ploughing is not only a success for the farming community, but also a celebration of the best of Tullamore – during the event and long after the crowds have gone."

The Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District, Councillor Declan Harvey also welcomed the ploughing back to Tullamore.

''I want to wish the organisers all the best. It will take a lot of patience from people. The Traffic Management Plan will work but I am asking people to be patient. It will be a great three days. The best of luck,'' said Cllr Harvey.
