Major wastewater upgrade set to transform Tullamore infrastructure

A major upgrade to Tullamore’s wastewater network will get underway at the end of August, paving the way for the town’s future growth and development.

Uisce Éireann confirmed the works are part of its National Growth and Development Programme, which aims to deliver long-term infrastructure improvements to the area.

From Monday, August 25, site investigation works will begin across several areas to finalise the design for the planned upgrade. This phase, expected to last around 9 weeks, will involve trial holes, slit trenches, ground-penetrating radar (GPR), CCTV surveys, and other essential preparatory works.

Traffic management will be in place in the following locations: Thornsberry Estate, Kearney Park, Connolly Park, Callary Street, Park Avenue, Convent View, Convent Road, Store Street, Harbour Street, Colmcille Street, Church Street, Patrick Street, and Main Street.

Traffic disruption is expected between the hours of 8am to 6pm on these dates. Uisce Éireann says these works are essential to ensuring Tullamore’s wastewater network can meet the needs of a growing community for decades to come.

The Cathaoirleach of Tullamore Municipal District, Councillor Declan Harvey has welcomed the work.

''I'm hoping this will resolve the issue of flooding on Tyrells Road which has been going on for years. I hope it won't cause too much inconvenience and they (Uisce Eireann) get it right this time.

But it's good news especially with all the new developments that are springing up on the north side of the town. It's essential work,'' he said.
