Brendan honoured for over 50 years service to scouting in Tullamore

Lifetime achievement award and other honours presented at Tullamore scouts awards

LIFETIME achievement, service to the community and families and memories were at the heart of the Tullamore scout awards held recently.

In presenting the lifetime achievement award to Brendan Martin for 50 years service to the youth in the community and to Edel, Mary and Darren for their long service.

County Programme co-ordinator Paddy Lynch, remarked that volunteering can be very rewarding but can also be demanding on family time.

In congratulating recipients of the awards he also thanked the families for their support to the scouter & for the privilege of sharing their family members with scouting.

Smiling faces all around as cubs and scouts leaders received awards. Presentations included Cub of the year Caelen Herathy, Cub of the year - runner up Lillie McCann, Sixer of the year Cian Daly, Patrol 2025 members Emily Hoey, Emma Mc Cann, India Holton, Dexter Morris,Killian Corbett. Best new cub Kristof Koutska.

An innovative idea for an award produced by leader Pol O Connall was a hand carved engraved wooden paddle presented to each of the scouts who excelled in skills, attendance, entertainment. The scout of the year was Sophie Duffy.

Service awards certificates and badges were presented to leaders - Mary Hoey - 2 years service, Edel Martin, service and Darren Dunne, 25 years service, Brendan Martin 50 years service.

Congratulations to Brendan Martin on receiving the lifetime achievement award for 50 years of service to scouting in Tullamore.

Brendan has been the cornerstone of Tullamore scouting since the 1970s. Over the years, he guided countless young scouts to earn prestigious awards like the chief scout award, Star Scout award and Youth of the Year sponsored by the Lions club in 90s.

He has led numerous camps across Ireland, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Austria. During the 90s Brendan oversaw the building of the scout den and managed the group of over 150 youth members. He achieved the Cu Chulainn award, the highest award in scouting in 2015.
