Iarnrod Eireann has still not given its approval for a pedestrian/cycle bridge over the railway at Spollenstown.

''It's a long drawn out process but it does have a finite date of August. We won't get it any quicker,'' said Joe Dooley, Senior Executive Engineer with Offaly County Council, who was speaking at the June meeting of Tullamore Municipal District.

Mr Dooley said consultants are working on everything else in the background.

The project is part of the Active Travel Programme and aims to improve connectivity and accessibility for the local community. However, while the project is part of the Active Travel programme, Offaly County Council is working with Iarnrod Eireann who is reviewing the plans.

The current bridge at Spollenstown is extremely narrow and isn't safe for pedestrians as there is no footpath. Cars can only get over the bridge one at a time.
