THERE is a busy weekend ahead in Tullamore Presbyterian Church. For the last year there have been major refurbishment works taking place to restore the building and make it suitable for the church’s ongoing work in the town.
Now that the work is drawing to a close there will be two special days to celebrate the official re-opening of the building.
On Saturday, May 31, from 11am to 4pm there will be an open day to allow people to come in and see the internal refurbishments that have taken place.
Rev. William Hayes, minister of the church said: “There has been so much work done on the inside of the building from new flooring, new wainscoting, repair of the stain glass windows and so on that it will be great for folks to see the new work. Around a quarter of the money used to refurbish the building came from public funds and so we are opening up the building to say to folks from the town, thank you! You have contributed to this!”
There will be displays relating to the history of the Tullamore Congregation of the Presbyterian Church which, in its current form, dates back to 1845.

There will also be “behind the scenes” photos and displays of the work that was done to the building showing what the walls looked like inside and what lies beneath the flooring.
There will be children’s activities and areas for families to sit around and relax during the open day.
On Sunday, June 1, at 11am there will be a service of thanksgiving to which everyone is invited and in which the congregation want to take time to thank everyone from the local community who have helped to refurbish the building.
“We want to take time to thank the electricians, plumbers, builders, architect, and everyone else who have been working away on our building for the last year. So much has happened behind the scenes and we thank God for all of those who have contributed financially or through their time and talents over this last year and it will be great to thank so many of them in person.”
Everyone is welcome at both events.
