Funding of over €300,000 for five heritage projects in Offaly under the 2025 Community Monuments Fund has been welcomed by Fine Gael TD for Offaly, John Clendennen.

The investment forms part of a national €7.5 million package announced by Ministers James Browne and Christopher O’Sullivan to protect and preserve Ireland’s rich archaeological heritage.

“I am delighted to confirm significant funding for Offaly’s historical sites.

This investment will not only safeguard important monuments but also create opportunities for local employment and tourism,” said Deputy Clendennen.

The Offaly allocations are as follows:

• Ballintemple Church – €94,879.40

• Toberdaly Castle & Folly – €129,681.65

• Newtown Fortified House – €27,767.25

• Lemanaghan Enclosure – €20,000

• Monasteroris Church – €30,000

“These grants will support vital conservation work, enhance public access, and help protect these monuments from the impacts of climate change,” Clendennen added. “It is fitting that these awards coincide with World Heritage Day on April 18, a day that highlights the importance of preserving our shared history.”

“The Community Monuments Fund continues to be a cornerstone in protecting our built heritage while supporting skilled local craftspeople. I want to thank the custodians of these sites for their dedication and passion, which ensures these places can be appreciated for generations to come.”
