A Tullamore and Clara based charity is supporting autism services in schools across Offaly among other ventures
TULLAMORE based charity, Power4Good has provided financial support for autism services in schools in Offaly.
At the cheque presentation in Durrow National School recently, Molly Buckley, President of Power4Good said: "We are very pleased to support Autism services in Offaly." She praised the work of the staff of Scoil Naoimh Colmcille.’
Durrow NS opened their first ASD class this year which has one teacher, two SNA’s and six fantastic students.
The students have a variety of neurodiversity needs which can be a challenge at times but it also brings so much positivity to the school.
The Darú classroom is currently in a temporary prefab which was refurbished by installing: tables, chairs, new digital boards, a sensory room, equipment, a safe yard area, resources and safety features.
The Principal, James Hogan said: "The aim in Durrow is to provide a safe, happy and positive environment for all pupils in the school, especially the pupils in Darú class. Their education will flourish with the support from organisations such as Power4Good."
Power4Good Ireland Ltd. is an Irish NGO based in Tullamore, set up in 2005.
It is registered in Ireland as a company limited by guarantee with charitable status
The vision that inspires Power4good is a world where people with disabilities can enjoy full human rights and achieves their maximum potential.
Their focus is on projects that support children and adults with disability, through education, training for employment, and community inclusion. The projects supported by Power4Good are small in scale but a very important part of their local community.
Power4Good funds some local projects including servicesfor young people with Autism, including, Ballinmere, Clara and Rahan, and St. Philomena’s Tullamore.
They support projects in Zambia who work with children with a disability including the Flamboyant School, Mazabuka, Zambia - funding the cost of transport for children to attend the special school.
Power4Good have three charity shops, two in Tullamore on Main Street and Kilbride Plaza and one on River Street, Clara, with two staff and 20 volunteers, who are committed to the work of Power4Good.
They were fortunate to have the late Fr. Michael Kelly, SJ, as their Patron for a number of years who inspired their work and they have to set up a small bursary for women's education in Zambia.
