There was a large attendance at the last 'bridgil' in Tullamore
Tullamore for Gaza, a local group formed late last year in support and solidarity with the people of Gaza, is holding a second bridgil (bridge vigil) for Gaza on Kilbeggan Bridge in Tullamore this Friday evening, June 28 at 6pm.
A similar bridgil event held by the group in May was very successful, with approximately eighty people in attendance and plenty of support from passers-by.
As was the case last month, it is hoped that every county in Ireland will hold a bridge protest.
Gráinne Fallon, organiser with Tullamore for Gaza explained the importance of local actions such as this,
“The needless and brutal loss of lives of men, women and children in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli forces and state since October last year is nothing short of a travesty. It is a genocide, no doubt about it. Over 37,000 people have now been killed. Local actions are really important in letting our local politicians know that the people of Ireland and the people of Offaly will not stand for this. It also allows those who can't travel to the larger protests across the country the opportunity to make their voices heard.”
Tullamore for Gaza is calling for the people of Tullamore to gather family and friends to show support and solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Palestine.
Attendees are asked to bring along Palestinian flags and home-made placards. The event is family-friendly and open to all.
