Snap Fitness 24/7 gym gets green light from Offaly County Council
OFFALY County Council has granted permission for the establishment of a new gym in a former retail outlet at Tullamore Retail Park.
The unit was formerly occupied by Carpet Right under a 'retail warehousing use'. It has been unoccupied since June 2023.
The application by Corum Origin is for a 24/7 gym. The applicant said there was an ''identified demand for a gym at this location and so the proposal is intended to change the permissible use of the unoccupied unit to facilitate this.''
The proposed tenant is Snap Fitness who according to the application have nearly 2,500 locations globally and many more in the development stages. Snap Fitness is operational or in development in 26 countries and operate 88 clubs in the UK and 3 in Ireland.
They specialise in gyms which are open 24/7 allowing continued access to members at all times of the day. The company already operate similar facilities in Navan, Drogheda Retail Park, Galway City and Waterford Retail Park,
The Tullamore site is zoned Enterprise and Employment. Offaly County Council imposed 8 conditions when granting permission.
Work to the existing facility will involve internal alterations to the layout to accommodate the proposed change of use. Provision of a new mezzanine level, external alterations to the elevations including the provision of a new front door, new signage to the front and all associated development works.
