Colaiste Choilm students in 'The Wizard of Oz'
Tullamore students transport their audience from a farmyard in Killeigh to the wonderful, magical land of Oz
Transition Year students from Coláiste Choilm in Tullamore took to the stage on Wednesday last and transported their audience from a farmyard in Killeigh to the wonderful, magical land of Oz.
Under the direction of their teachers Stacy Hogan, Niamh McDermott and Deirdre Lee they displayed their array of talent with superb acting, fantastic singing, playing music and choreography.
On his journey Dara-T and a real life Toto met an array of wonderful characters including a scarecrow, tin man and lion, a news reporter called Trey Shobin (big ladies man by the way), a Killeigh man, a good witch, a bad witch, munchkins, soldiers and finally a wizard and his helpers before finding his way back home to Uncle Henry.
Supported by a live band comprised of Coláiste Choilm students and with the expertise of past pupil Ciaran Whelan in charge of sound and lights, spectators were fully immersed in their experience and thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Oz which showcased a fabulous set design by art teacher Joanne O'Malley.
Organisers were delighted to welcome local primary schools into the two matinee shows and are grateful for their support.
They would also like to thank all of the local businesses who donated spot prizes for the raffle, St Mary's Youth and Community Centre and Galvin for Men who pitched in with costumes on that night.
Special thanks to all students and staff involved in making Coláiste Choilm’s Pantomime “The Wizard of Oz” a huge success.
The show was just another example of the many ways that staff in Coláiste Choilm go out of their way to encourage students to participate in as many extra curricular activities as they can.
