On your bike! Offaly camogie benefits from cyclathon fundraiser

Tullamore Camogie Club seeks volunteers to take part in town's St Patrick's Day Parade

If you believe the old rhyme March comes in like a lion it will go out like a lamb, then weather at the end of the month should be very different to last weekend. The bitterly cold conditions of snow, rain and low temperatures left the organisers of the Mini Féile with no other option but to postpone the event in the interest of the players well-being and pitch conditions late on Friday. A huge effort had been put in to improve player facilities, welfare facilities and spectator facilities at Dr. Kelly’s Field. It was all gearing up to be a fantastic event however the weather wasn’t kind to the organisers.

A big thanks to all those who were involved in the work especially Padraig Hannon Chairperson, Ursula Conlon Child Welfare Officer and Bernice O Brien Assistant Secretary. To the Larkin Family who provided a trophy for the event, Offaly Sports Partnership for their support to mark Women In Sports Week. A new date will be scheduled for the event. Bail ó Dhia ar an obair go léir. Gan dabht beidh lá eile agaibh.

The weather did not stop the spinathon/cyclathon fundraising event organised by Offaly Camogie. The Bridge Centre was the Tullamore venue for the event. A number of Tullamore Camogie Club players selected for Offaly County teams and panels participated on Saturday. Tullamore Camogie underage members attended the event. Tullamore coaches Miriam O’Callaghan, Dermot Cunningham, Padraig Hannon along with Offaly U16 coach Declan Fogarty all took part on the day. Our own committee member and Chairperson of Offaly Camogie Jim Kirwan took to the bike in style. Maith sibh.

Offaly Camogie hosted the U16 match against Carlow in Crinkill on Sunday. Offaly dominated for most of the game. Tullamore girls Katie McDermott, Ella Cantwell, Rachel Cunningham, Katie Fogarty and Jennifer Rigney were part of the team that won 2-13 to 1-4. The next game for the Offaly girls is against Kilkenny next weekend. The Offaly Minor team with Tullamore girls Sarah O’Rourke, Emma Buggy and Ellie Lawlor was also playing this weekend. A single point gave Offaly a win over Roscommon. Final score Offaly 0-11 to Roscommon 0-10 points. Bhí an lá ag Co. Uíbh Fhailí.

In club news the Strength and Conditioning (S&C) gym sessions for the Tullamore girls finished up last week. Special thanks to the S&C coach Pauric Brazil and Mentors Bernice O Brien, Padraig Hannon, Dermot Cunningham, and Jim Kirwan who accompanied the girls in the gym. Tullamore Camogie Club table quiz has been organised in Maunsells at 8pm on Friday 15th March. Tables of 4 are invited to enter, €40 per table. Finger food will be served on the night along with loads of super spot prizes.

Tullamore Camogie Club senior women play Kiltale, Meath next Sunday in the Leinster League. Venue and time has yet to be decided. Tullamore Camogie Club would like to join Offaly Camogie in expressing condolences to the Cleary Family on the passing of their mother Mary. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hAnam. As St. Patrick’s Day draws closer Tullamore Camogie Club will be looking for members to walk in the St. Patrick’s Day parade. More details to follow in the coming days.
