Fianna Fail councillor hosts information evening

Advice for Offaly home buyers at public meeting in Edenderry

ADVICE for first-time house buyers will be given at an information meeting in Edenderry on Thursday, November 30 next.

The meeting is being hosted by local Fianna Fail representative, Cllr Robert McDermott, and will take place in O’Donoghue’s Bar & Lounge, Fr Kearns Street, Edenderry.

Cllr McDermott said the main theme of the evening will be “How to buy your first home”.

The councillor (pictured below) said that because his office receives a large volume of queries regarding the supports available to people either building homes or seeking to purchase vacant properties, he felt it would be a good idea to hold a public meeting to address the various issues raised.

There will be presentations on: First Home Scheme, Help to buy scheme, How to save costs on planning applications, Derelict Home Grant, Vacant Home Grant and SEAI (Sustainable Energy Association Ireland) grants and schemes.

The keynote speaker on the night will be Senator Mary Fitzpatrick who works closely with the Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien and is a member of the housing committee in the Oireachtas.

Other contributors on the night will include Shane Murphy, managing director of Ashgrove Renewables who will give a detailed presentation on the various SEAI schemes and grants that people can avail of to make their homes more energy efficient.

Offaly Fianna Fail TD, Barry Cowen, and Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick, Fianna Fail, will also be attending the public meeting.
