The Irish powerchair team which includes three Offaly players and two from Laois which defeated England
THE Irish Powerchair football team beat the World Cup favourites England on a scoreline of 2-1 at a recent friendly match in St George’s park, England.
The team is composed of Kinnitty brothers Tom and Sean Donogher, Conor Troy from Kilcormac, Aoife McNicholl and Emer O'Sullivan from Portlaoise, Naglis Nontvillas from Dublin along with Liam Lynch and Matthew Crowley from Cork.
They travelled with their coach Mike Donogher, assistant coach Almas Montvillas and team manager Jerry Sheehan to St George’s park to complete in a weekend of matches.
These were the first international games for England on their own soil. England are one of the favourites for winning the upcoming Powerchair football World Cup this October in Sydney. Team Ireland are ecstatic with the 2-1 win and are now only the third country to beat the English along with France and America.
